New York City Geographic Birth Index
In his recent newsletter, Dick Eastman mentions the availability of this NYC record set which is an index to all births in NYC from about 1880 to 1912. Rather than a typical birth index by surname or date, this index is arranged by the child’s place of birth – as in the actual street address! There are approximately 2.8 million names. Harriet Tubman
Harriet Tubman was to have been the new face on the U.S. $20 bill. However, the release of the new bill has been delayed to approximately 2028. Having escaped slavery on Maryland’s Eastern Shore, Harriet Tubman went on to help lead hundreds of people to freedom along the Underground Railroad before the American Civil War (1861-65).
SGS member Pat Rongey lived in Liberia for two years and recalls visiting the Tubman zoo many times. She recommends viewing a short video to learn more about this historic woman.
