This month’s meeting presentation features Genealogy Shorts with Mike Allen and Sally Daugherty on ‘Ancestors from the Grand Army of the Republic’. Mike will provide a brief summary of the army and a mystery badge story. Sally will speak about her great grandfather and the GAR, and share a story of ‘The Last Man Standing’. Recycle Program
The Siuslaw News gave special recognition to the SGS Recycle Program in this week’s edition. This fundraising project continues to receive used printer cartridges, phones and other electronic devices for recycling, which bring us revenue while making a positive ecological impact!!
Genealogy Basics Course: Tracing Your Family’s Roots
President Mike Allen will be teaching an introductory, three-week genealogy course at Lane Community College beginning October 26th. The class meets on Thursdays from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. He will demonstrate how to create a family tree, use online and office research tools and methods of expanding your family tree research through DNA. The class will involve lecture and interactive discussions. Anyone interested can register at the college. Cost: $20.25
