Thank you to everyone providing assistance with the SGS booth at this year’s Oktoberfest event. In addition to selling cake and nuts, many visitors expressed an interest in learning more about genealogy.
Family History Library Display
Honoring October as Family History month, SGS members Mary Colgan-Bennetts and Merilee Mulvey have put together a nice collection of photographs, heirlooms, and memorabilia with fascinating family stories. The collection can be viewed in the library display case and hall gallery through the month of October.
Upcoming
This month’s SGS meeting will feature member Merilee Mulvey with a short presentation on a black sheep ancestor. She will reveal a tale of intrigue, family wealth and murder in Colorado during the 1860’s.
Update: Mary Gill will follow Merilee with a story of her great-great grandfather ‘who was a multi-bigamist and a pathological liar’.
Other members are encouraged to share their stories of ancestors with mysterious and perhaps, ‘questionable’ character.
Coos Bay Family History Seminar
The Saturday, November 5th event is free, with several interesting topics. Kevin will be doing a presentation on Overland Trails. Register online at http://www.coosbayfamilyhistoryseminar.org. Lunch will be provided.
